Alastair "Pookie" Penman is an in demand saxophone, clarinet and ewi player, teacher and performer based between Bucks and Cambridgeshire, currently studying at St Catharine's College, Cambridge University (having turned down scholarships to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Royal Northern College of Music).

In a classical setting Alastair has held posts including principal saxophonist with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britatin and Cambridge University Chamber, Symphony and 1st Orchestras as well as having played clarinet with Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra and principal clarinet with Cambridge University 1st Orchestra (CUMS1). He has performed at many of the UK's leading venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Symphony Hall.

In a jazz setting, Alastair is currently lead saxophonist with the Cambridge University Jazz Orchestra and performs with various small jazz combos and function bands. Alastair also has vast experience doubling on all saxes (sop/alto/tenor/bari) and clarinets in pit bands.
