Alastair Penman CertGSMD is a much sought after saxophonist and clarinettist currently studying at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge having turned down scholarships to the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music. Alastair has performed extensively in both the UK and abroad at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Symphony Hall, The Rudolfinum (Prague), La Madelaine (Paris) and Tarrega Jazz Festival for audiences such as HM The Queen, Sir Steve Redgrave and Stephen Hawking. Notable posts Alastair has held include principal saxophonist with the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, Cambridge University Chamber, Symphony and Jazz Orchestras and clarinettist with the Cambridge University Music Society 1st Orchestra, Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra and Cambridge Touring Opera.

Qualifications:

Saxophone:
CertGSMD (P) with Distinction
Grade 8 with High Honours (GSMD Jazz)

Clarinet:
Grade 8 with Distinction (ABRSM)

Piano:
Grade 8 with Merit (ABRSM)

High Wycombe Orpheus Young Musician Competition:
Winner in 2004, 2005, 2006 (saxophone)
Second in 2002 (clarinet), 2003 (saxophone)

Marlow Music Festival Concerto Competition:
Gold Medal Winner in 2006 (saxophone)

High Wycombe Music Centre Soloist Competition:
Second in 2003, 2005, 2006 (clarinet)
Upon leaving the music centre, Alastair has also been awarded a prize for being the most promising performer to leave in 2006.
